CDG Scholarship Recipients Participate in “Tweens In Engineering”
After attending Engineering Camp on CDG Scholarships, local high school students Bianca Dimailig and Juliette Lopez worked together to offer a “Tweens-In-Engineering” (TIE) Program to ten 4th through 6th grade children who attend the Caring Place After-School Program. The program consists of seven monthly sessions from October 2018 through April 2019.
The High School students lead the children in hands-on engineering projects while also discussing various aspects of Engineering, such as magnetism and velocity.
Projects so far have included building an elevator from a box and a projection device with popsicle sticks and a clothes-pin. The classes also include introducing two words to explain engineering (energy and gravity) and games to reinforce previously learned material.
Scholarships to offset cost were funded by the Baha’i Faith in La Grange as well as several churches who are part of the La Grange area Ministerium. Thank you to these generous donors, and to Bianca and Juliette for organizing this valuable program!
